3 Million Barn Swallows (or previously known as European Swallows)
Migrating from Russia to Mount Moreland, a small hamlettype village, situated just North of Umhlanga Rocks on the North coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa â€“ travelling over 20000km. They believed to be the announcers of spring/summer, as they arrive mid-October and depart around March. The best viewing time is definitely in November. The swallows gather together about half an hour before sunset and gives a soul-stirring sight as they fly in their vast numbers over the wetlands. Keep your eye peeled, as you might also see a Sooty Falcon or a Bat Hawk grabbing a quick bite to eat before the swallows drop into the reed-beds for the night.
